Shoot like Connor Bedard

By Andrew Trimble

Every kid these days is seeing videos on Connor Bedards release. The speed, quickness, torque, follow through… its exceptional.

Bedard is using modern sticks and mechanics to create this exceptional skill. For players trying to acquire this skill here are a couple teaching points.

  • Less Load- More explode. You no longer have to drag the puck through in a sweeping motion to create velocity. The modern sticks allow greater flexibility at all ages. This creates torque, and can drive through the puck prior to release.

  • Front foot is open. Coaches used to teach players to shoot across their body. Like they were hitting a baseball. Now, the front foot is open but weight is still rapidly transferred through the shot from the back foot to the front foot.

  • Stick the follow through- drive through the puck and make sure you dont waste motion with a looping follow through. Drive, aim and fire.

Heres a link to a youtube video demonstrating Bedards shooting mechanics.
