Too often we over think or have too much down time during a practice session. We think about what is the best drills or over complicate things by making elaborate set ups of equipment or obstacles.
An essential skill for players is 1 on 1 puck battles. The ability to win the puck when someone else is competing for it.
Create situations in practice (after a drill, right at the start, or nearing the end) when players are partnered up and have to compete for one puck for an extended duration of time. They will have to be physical, use their bodies, control space, and retain possession.
Doing this will help your players and teams become successful and it doesnt require anything more than verbal instructions and enough pucks.
