Click on video to see the drill variations we recently did with our EHL Premier Junior team.
After opening the session up with an edgework warmup (in the video the drills with the two nets), we moved into the circles series, which involved edge work then rapid changes of direction. Cutbacks are a great way to keep and protect pucks, extend plays and more… oftentimes young players correlate tight turns (or rink turns) with cutbacks, however, they are different. Cutbacks use the outside edge of the inside foot of the turn to sharply and suddenly change direction. Players cant be on their heels (as many will be with tight turns), and we will want to see rapidly cross over acceleration out of the cutback.
Lastly we finished with some races to make it accountable and fun. Hope you enjoy and can use some of these concepts in a future practice.
